The best part of my week!!

It has been a long day.  In a long week.  In a long month.  In a long year.

I am tired.  Not just "I could use a good nap" tired.  Like "I could fall into bed and sleep like a dead person, bone weary, draining exhaustion" kind of tired.

My kids are starting to feel my tiredness, which only makes me more tired.  The little rats have inherited the night owl gene from both sides, which makes late nights and early morning hazardous!  The last few nights, neither of them has fallen asleep any earlier than 10, and they ahve been waking up some time in the wee hours with some type of distress, be it a full bladder, thirsty mouth, or bad dreams.

We've all had a long day.

It's after dinner time.  It's after bath time.  It's after pajamas and last drink time.  It's after homework time.  Alex is already asleep in the sleeping bag on her daddy's side of the bed.  Jakob, who's eyes are starting to belie that fact that he has pulled the "late night/early morning" aforementioned behavior, is in his sleeping bag on my side of the bed.

He puts up no fuss at all as I lay him down.  We say our prayers, I "zoop" him up, and I close the door behind me, leaving him to the sound of whatever music happens to be on Sirius Spirit Radio.

Two minutes later comes the best part of my week.  I go back in to check on him.  He's lying, comfortably ensconces in his bag, with the long blink thing going on that immediately precedes sleep.  I lay down next to him on the floor.  Both of us tired.  Both of us more than a little cranky.  Both staring into each other's eyes.  He manages to get out a barely audible "mama, I love you so much" before blessed sleep claims him.  I breathe out a long breath, expelling with it much weariness.

It is then that my ear tunes in to what is playing on the radio.  Chris Tomlin's version of "Amazing Grace".

How sweet the sound, indeed!  The best part of my week:  Comfortably between "momma, I love you so much" and "amazing grace".
